For this reason, the team of \u00cd\u00f1igo Errej\u00f3n, from M\u00e1s Pa\u00eds, has registered a bill to eliminate the figure included in our regulations in 2013 by Crist\u00f3bal Montoro, the well-known finance minister of Mariano Rajoy.<\/p> But is the Golden Visa really a problem for the Balearic Islands? Let me give you some facts. In the last decade, the Golden Visa has helped around 5,000 foreigners to benefit from it in Spain, that is to say an average of 500 applicants per year. The truth is that it doesn't seem like a lot?<\/p> It should also be noted that almost half of the golden visas granted in Spain have been to Chinese citizens (45%) and Russians (19.6%), while they were not banned. In other words, it does not seem that in the Balearics we have had a real problem with this issue. Perhaps it is a problem for Portugal, which is eliminating it from its regulations because of the attractiveness of its country for relocating, or Canada, which has a problem with its southern neighbours, Biden's compatriots, making him raise housing prices because of the better life expectancy offered by its northern neighbour.<\/p> In my opinion, in the Balearic Islands we should not worry since, of the more than six thousand properties bought by foreigners, just over three hundred were bought to obtain the \"visa\" (8% of the total in Spain). It should be borne in mind that total purchases in Spain last year amounted to 650,000 homes - 14% from foreigners - although if we focus on those of more than half a million euros, 9%, almost 60% were made by European Union citizens, who for obvious reasons, do not need any kind of visa to buy a property or reside in Spain.<\/p> From what I have been saying, I do not believe that the generalised rise in prices is related, or at least not in any significant way, to the Golden Visa phenomenon, nor that it should be the focus of the left (or of anyone with a minimum of intellectual solvency).<\/p> The problem of young people, and their difficulties in accessing housing, is not the few houses that are being sold for more than half a kilo, but the lack of work and
