Artificial intelligence in tourism
I am not a specialist in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) but I know that Google uses a ranking algorithm, known as PageRank, to determine the relevance of web pages in its search results. However, this algorithm is only one of many indicators that Google uses to determine search results. Others would be, for example, content relevance, quality, user experience, etc.
For a long time understanding Google's algorithms - like the search for the Holy Grail for King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table - has been the object of desire for SEO consultants. Experts say - half jokingly, half seriously - that the best place to hide something is on the "second page of Google", which is where nobody looks.
I think it's already clear to us that ? for example, with ChapGPT - it is already getting some good competitors. that will start to move the tech giant's chair.
If until now companies have struggled to rank high enough in Google, now professionals are emerging who are helping you to use ChapGPT properly and how to be more specific in your queries, understand the limitations of AI and discover new tasks to apply it to (copywriting, generating creative ideas, etc.).
As inspiration for this article I asked ChapGPT ?I am going to be in Ibiza for a weekend and I need to know what are the 5 places I have to visit on the island of Ibiza. I also need you to tell me when is the best time of day to do the activity? Your recommendation: Dalt Vila, in the morning to avoid the crowds and enjoy the views, the Cathedral or the walled area; Ses Salines beach, and that I visit it mid-morning, when the sun is not at its highest point; the Las Dalias market, and that if I go on Saturday it should be early to avoid the crowds; the Café del Mar (Sant Antoni de Portmany) and its sunsets; and finally the views towards the island of Es Vedrá.
I also asked him about the best parties and he emphasises the Flower Power of Pachá, although it should be noted that the latest update is from the end of 2021.
We can agree? or not. But tourism businesses are going to have to do their utmost to study the motive for such choices in order, as with Google, to see how to positioning in the answers to this new way we have to inform ourselves.
